Note: First Foods with Jack
We started solids with Jack on his five month birthday! To be honest, I was kind of trying to push it off because I just didn't want to believe he was ready, but I started to feel so guilty when I would eat food in front of him. So, I knew it was time for us to get started. I did a lot of research before we started solids, just because I believe nutrition is so important, and I wanted to set Jack up with the best beginning I could! Because of that, we decided against cereals at all (most Pediatricians actually recommend nixing those now) and are starting with nutritional foods like bone broth, sweet potatoes + avocado. So far, we've tried the first two - and Jack is still like "what is this?!"
From reading, it seems like the new recommendation is to start your baby with vegetables + meats, then fruits, and then introduce grain more towards one year. The thought behind this is that if you start with veggies, your baby will learn to love veggies. My parents always fed us everything + so I never had a hate for broccoli, or cauliflower or really anything - I would eat just about every veggie they put in front of me - and I really want that for Jack too!
I've also been homemaking everything Jack eats, because honestly it takes five minutes, and then I know every ingredient in the food he eats. I'll keep you guys updated on how it goes! Next up, we're trying avocado + then probably egg yolk. Fingers crossed!
